Barona: Sustainability reporting
Barona published the company’s first sustainability report in June 2022. The report was aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative standards within applicable areas. We supported Barona in various phases of the reporting process, for example:
• Helped further define Baron’s sustainability policies and themes
• Determined the GRI indicators Barona would report and provided guidance in fulfilling the GRI reporting requirements
• Coached and supported Barona in producing the report’s content and layout

Caruna: EU Taxonomy assessment
One of the strategic goals that the electricity distributor Caruna has identified for the company is deploying emissions-free energy and helping its clients and Finnish society to transition seamlessly to a clean energy future. Caruna wanted to assess the sustainability of its own operations to strengthen its role in fighting the climate crisis.
We at Third Rock conducted an assessment of the sustainability of Caruna’s operations considering climate change mitigation and adaptation. We estimated Caruna’s alignment with the EU sustainable finance taxonomy and the criteria set for the electricity distribution and transmission sector.
Deaconess Foundation: Sustainability focus areas and programme
Deaconess Foundation started developing a sustainability strategy in August 2019. We contributed to the process as an advisor, as a member of the sustainability steering group, and as a team leader of one of the subgroups. The sustainability strategy was approved by the Group Management Board in June 2020.
The process was built on our Sustainability Platform concept, applying it to the needs of a non-profit actor such as the Deaconess Foundation.
Responsibility is part of all activities at Deaconess Foundation. Together with our personnel, we analysed relevant sustainability topics in order to design a concrete sustainability programme with objectives and indicators. Third Rock’s expertise helped us structure our work towards a more responsible and sustainable foundation. We are delighted with the pragmatic and inspiring support from Third Rock.”

DNA: Sustainability agenda for executive team
In order to meet the increasing demands for corporate responsibility and sustainability, DNA focuses on business-relevant sustainability topics, and integrates sustainability aspects into product and service development.
DNA wanted to deepen the company’s executive team’s understanding of megatrends and sustainability trends, and analyse these trends from a business perspective. For this work, DNA chose Third Rock as its partner. The process culminated in a workshop with the executive team, preceded by a survey on sustainability themes as well as interviews with the company’s top management.

Fingo: Climate justice work
Fingo is an NGO platform and an expert on global development. It represents 300 Finnish civil society organisations and strives to build a fairer world for all.
We developed a climate justice operating environment and stakeholder analysis as well as an advocacy plan in cooperation with Fingo’s advocacy team.

Finlayson: Carbon footprint calculation
Finlayson first calculated its carbon footprint in 2015. In the textile industry, the majority of emissions originate from the value chain. Because of this, emissions from materials and production were included in the calculations along with the emissions originating from operations in Finland.
The carbon footprint calculations for 2020 were conducted in collaboration with Third Rock. We conducted the analysis based on data collected by Finlayson and identified the most impactful steps that the company can take in the future to reduce its emissions.
The project with Veikko and Leo went very smoothly. We were provided with assistance and new perspectives for improving our environment work in the future.

Finnish Customs: Environmental program and impact estimate
Finnish Customs promotes the smooth flow of goods trade, ensures legal compliance, and keeps Finland safe and secure. As a government agency, Customs also has a strong mandate to develop responsibility work in every area of its operations.
In cooperation with Customs, Third Rock worked on the organisation’s environmental program and explored and presented a wide range of measures to increase Customs’ positive impact on the environment.
HPL: Sustainability training, guidebook and videos for members
The Private Employment Agencies Association (HPL) supports its corporate members with a variety of advisory services. Sustainability topics have become increasingly important drivers for success also in the field of private employment, and HPL recognized the need to offer its members support in sustainability work. This is where Third Rock stepped in: planning and executing a sustainability training for HPL’s corporate members and creating a guidebook for the development of a corporate responsibility program. The guidebook was accompanied by video content.
The guidebook and videos are meant to support private employment agencies in planning, setting goals, and measuring sustainability. The project was executed in close cooperation with HPL and its members.
In recent years, we have invested heavily in supporting the sustainability efforts of our corporate members. Our members already follow guidelines for a fair application experience, recruitment and inclusiveness, to mention few. We were greatly inspired to take the next steps for responsible private employment with the lead of a top expert such as Sari. The excitement Sari was able to create with her expertise has already borne fruit; many of our corporate members are in the process of creating a sustainability strategy.

Idea Group Oy: Carbon footprint calculator and offset strategy for events
Idea Group was established in the summer of 2021, when Viestintätoimisto Telegraafi and Tapahtumatoimisto merged. Idea Group offers a wide range of solutions for communications, event production and marketing.
We produced a carbon footprint (CFP) calculator for Idea Group to estimate the emissions generated by holding an event. With the CFP calculation tool, Idea Group can calculate the carbon footprint of the events it produces and make average estimates for the most typical events. In addition, we prepared a recommendation for effective offsetting of an event’s carbon footprint.
At Idea Group, we have ambitious sustainability goals. One part of our responsibility program is the calculation and carbon offsetting of the carbon footprint of the events we organize. We chose Third Rock as our partner because of their excellent reputation. The choice was right. We received professional expert help from them exactly according to our needs. Innogreen: Product carbon footprint calculation
InnoGreen brings nature closer to us by creating sustainable greenery solutions for indoor and outdoor spaces.
We assisted InnoGreen in calculating the carbon footprint of the ”Green stop” structure and developed a tool for InnoGreen that the company can use to calculate the carbon footprint of the rest of its products.
The Circular Economy Center: Vision and strategy work
The Circular Economy Centre serves companies by developing businesses, providing expert assistance, applying for funding, and connecting actors. The Centre works closely with companies, authorities and educational institutions, and it is a respected pioneer in its field on an international scale.
In cooperation with the staff and management team of the Centre, Third Rock implemented a three-workshop strategy process that identifies the operating environment, threats and opportunities, and devises new services. In addition, key communications aspects and a roadmap for 2035 have been created for the strategy.

The Church Resources Agency: Development of sustainability strategy
Third Rock assisted The Church Resources Agency in crystallizing its sustainability work into a goals-oriented sustainability strategy. The UN Sustainable Development goals were chosen as a framework and the most relevant SDGs for the Agency were identified. The sustainability strategy also includes KPIs that correspond to the chosen goals and targets.
Third Rock also conducted a carbon footprint calculation pilot for the Agency. The calculation included emissions from the Agency’s headquarters as well as work-related travel.

L&T: Scope 3 carbon footprint calculation
Lassila & Tikanoja (L&T) is a service company that puts the circular economy into practice. L&T’s goal is to keep materials and properties in productive use for as long as possible and enhance the use of raw materials and energy.
Third Rock helped L&T calculate its 2021 Scope 3 emissions. Simultaneously, the accuracy and precision of the company’s Scope 3 calculations were increased to the level required for setting science-based targets. Manna & Co: Sustainability policies and reporting + carbon footprint calculation
Manna & Co Oy is a Finnish textile “brand house”. It is home to the Finlayson, Makia, Vallila, Reino & Aino, Sasta, and Lexington brands.
We helped Manna define the company’s sustainability policies and produced Manna’s first sustainability report in collaboration with the graphic design agency Ilove Creative. We also conducted Manna’s carbon footprint calculation for the year 2021.

Meira: Validation of sustainability strategy
Meira Oy is part of Italian Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group, one of the largest coffee companies in Europe. Meira manufactures coffee and flavouring products in Helsinki, Finland.
Meira had internally drafted a sustainability programme and focus areas for its sustainability work. In the process, Meira had recognised the need for validation of the plan, and Third Rock was chosen as the partner.

STEK: Surveys and interviews
STEK ry, which promotes electrical engineering and energy efficiency, is a public utility organisation. STEK advances safe and reliable electricity use, electric energy efficiency solutions, and smart electricity use by collecting, producing, and sharing information.

Tamro: Sustainability program and policy
Tamro is a forerunner in reliable healthcare and a unifier in its industry. The company has recognized the importance of its reputation and sustainability work as business drivers.
Together with Tamro, we developed a sustainability programme for the company, utilizing our Sustainability Platform concept, and supported Tamro in creating a sustainability policy.
Tokmanni: Sustainability reporting
Tokmanni’s 2021 sustainability report was published in March 2022. Third Rock produced the report in collaboration with the graphic design agency Ilove Creative. The report was compiled according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) sustainability reporting standards.
During the six-month project, Third Rock was responsible for project management, updating the report’s GRI index, and assisting Tokmanni’s writing team to ensure that the contents of the report aligned with GRI requirements. The report was written in English, and Third Rock edited all texts and wrote two case articles. The layout of the report was also updated and refreshed. Third Rock also produced the Finnish summary of the report as well as the graphs published on Tokmanni’s website.
Working with Third Rock was flexible and easy. We were able to receive expert help in composing the contents of the report, and the quality of our reporting increased. We worked in close collaboration communicating almost daily, and as the project progressed, we became a tight-knit team that shared a goal, regardless of the name of the organisation and the title of each worker.

Valio: Sustainability focus areas

Veho: Sustainability reporting
We produced Veho’s first sustainability report in collaboration with the company’s Head of Sustainability and other experts.
We created the report concept, developed a structure and content plan and produced the content of the report. Veho was responsible for data collection and layout of the report.
We started developing and producing Veho’s sustainability report from nearly nothing, so Third Rock’s help was more than needed. VR Group: Biodiversity strategy
VR Group is a travel, logistics, and maintenance service company, which is transporting us towards a prosperous and carbon-neutral Finland. VR Group serves both consumer and corporate customers.
Together with VR, Third Rock developed a biodiversity strategy for the company, and supported the identification and formulation of the company’s key biodiversity impacts, targets and measures.
Working with Third Rock helped us identify key issues related to biodiversity loss and build our first biodiversity strategy. With the help of the process, we were able to kickstart our own holistic biodiversity work. In recent years, we have worked for biodiversity through, for example, the management of traditional landscapes, but now we have a broader understanding of what can be done for biodiversity.

Wulff: Sustainability strategy
At Wulff, sustainability, climate change and the various dimensions of sustainable development have been taken into account in all operations. City of Äänekoski: Evaluation of climate roadmap
In 2019, the City of Äänekoski launched the Green Renewable Äänekoski (Vihreä Uusiutuva Äänekoski) project, in which an environmental policy and an environment programme for the city was created. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Association of Central Finland.
Within the framework of this project, Third Rock assessed the emissions reduction potential of Äänekoski’s planned climate measures, recommended the prioritization of certain measures, proposed new measures, and produced examples of emission reduction calculation of various measures.
